As Canadian immigration rules are getting stiffer, changes are made to put a stop on bogus marriages. Various reports have been filed where people have got into contract marriages so that they can sort the permanent resident status of Canada. Recently immigration minister Jason Kenny implemented new laws under which fake marriages will be kept on a strict vigil. Kenny has stated that marriage frauds have become a threat to the Canadian economy as more and more couples are applying for being a citizen of Canada, but with the changes in the laws of immigration, the government is able to put a stop on the jig. With the amendments in position of Immigration and Refugee Protection regulation, provisional period has been designed for sponsored partners.
Immigration minister Kenny said, “The changes in the rules is stringent for every sponsored citizen of Canada and they will have to show their status update with the immigration department as and when required.” Kenny also added that, it is difficult to attain the information of all the sponsored citizens, but the changes are applicable to all. The experts are stating that, with the change in the existing law, PR status of the citizens will be justified and equal opportunity will be provided.
What effects will take place with the amendment
With the recent changes that have taken place in the immigration laws, new fronts will be opened which will influence and render partners who are sponsored in the country. Previously, Canadians were granted the right to sponsor and bring in foreign spouses; they were established by giving a permanent resident on arrival in Canada without any further obligations. However, with the changes in the law of immigration, now a sponsored partner who is into a relationship for two years along with which does not have children from the sponsor will have to stay with the sponsor under a justifiable marriage for the duration of two years.
If the sponsored partner fails to do so, there will be a revocation of the PR status along with charges of criminal activities and further result to deportation of the sponsored partner. Anyhow, completing the duration of two years does not remove the threat of being scrutinized by the immigration officers if the sponsored partner has infringed the conditions previously. Under the new amendments, which have been made, record of sponsored partners would be attained and will be taken under the new rules that have been implemented.
The risks involved with the changes in the law
The change, which has been done in the immigration law, is being criticized due to various reasons. Many are stating that, as the government is busy drawing conclusions for the new immigrations laws, they are missing out the points of injustice and suffering of the individual. In addition, as various methods are being taken into use for collecting information, loss of capital is also faced. The experts are stating that, with the amendments in the laws, woman will be further persecuted along with leaving a negative impact on the children.
